The Lviv Defense Cluster has sent almost 7,000 fourth-class personal protective equipment to the units of the State Emergency Service.

The director of the "Dopomoha to the LDC" foundation Kyrylo Novikov says this, Ukrinform reports.

What is the problem?

Ukrainian soldiers, medics and rescuers need a progressive approach and a wide range of personal protective equipment to ensure their safety. One of the most important elements of protective equipment is a bulletproof vest.

The product is made of ballistic layers that destroy bullets and dissipate energy from impacts, thereby preventing injury.

What is the solution?

Since the first days of the full-scale war, a new volunteer project, the Lviv Defense Cluster, has been established in the western city.

Its main goal is to provide Ukrainians with high-quality bulletproof vests for free. The center has brought together tech specialists, businessmen, volunteers, and donors.

During the full-scale aggression, the cluster has provided almost 7,000 fourth-class personal protective equipment to the units of the State Emergency Service.

How does it work?

Ukrainian rescuers always request personal protective equipment, and the center fulfils them, Novikov says.

The last issues they made were to rescuers from Luhansk, based in Kharkiv, and Donetsk, based in Dnipro. These were operational renditions to provide for the personnel.

"In 2022-2023, the LDC provided 6866 bulletproof vests to the SES units," Novikov said.

This assistance was possible by the coordinated work of LDC, all the companies that help them produce bulletproof vests in Ukraine, the State Emergency Service and donors, who make it possible to purchase materials for personal protective equipment.

In 2023, the cluster produced 100,000 bulletproof vests for all Ukrainian forces.

Another 550 evacuation kits (bulletproof vests + helmets) were sent to the Juvenile Prevention Unit of the National Police, which is already being used on the frontline to evacuate children.

The LDC also donated 4,000 bulletproof vests with anti-shrapnel protection for medical workers in Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions.

Earlier, the Lviv Defense Cluster, Run Ukraine and the ProBig running club initiated an international charity online race to raise funds for bulletproof vests.

Participants from 29 countries joined the online charity event "Run to 100,000 bulletproof vests".
