Ukrainian ranked one of top ten teachers worldwide for the first time

Ukrainian language and literature teacher Artur Proydakov is among the top ten best teachers in the world for the first time, according to the yearly Global Teacher Prize, known as the "Nobel Prize" for teachers.

Being a teacher, Artur Proydakov wants to convey to the world that Ukrainian educators continue to do their job well even in times of full-scale war, being a part of the force that defends the values of goodness and justice.

It is very hard to believe and fathom this. There are 10 people on planet Earth. And I, a Ukrainian teacher, am among these 10. It inspires and motivates me. It means that I am doing everything right. And thousands of Ukrainian teachers are also doing the right thing, continuing to work and preserve values even in the face of a full-scale war. This achievement would not have been possible without our defenders, Artur Proydakov said.

The name of the world's best teacher in 2023 will be announced on November 8 at the Global Teacher Prize award ceremony, which takes place during the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris. The winner will receive a one million dollar prize.

Proydakov was born in the city of Kadiivka, in the Luhansk region, now occupied by Russian forces since 2014. After the full-scale war, he started Ukrainian language courses for displaced persons, taught lessons as part of the All-Ukrainian Curriculum, and spoke to foreign and Ukrainian media about Russian aggression and the importance of teaching in the face of such challenges. He is also the author of lessons in the All-Ukrainian Online School.

Arthur considers it his mission as a teacher to help educators in Ukraine find their voice and be proactive in their school and community and to help raise the reputation of the teaching profession in Ukraine.

This year's list of the world's 50 best teachers includes two Ukrainian teachers, Artur Proydakov and Liudmyla Tabolina (also a teacher of Ukrainian language and literature, a winner of the Global Teacher Prize Ukraine 2019).
