Italian journalist to walk 500 km to raise €1 mln for Ukrainian charity funds

Italian journalist Kevin Carboni initiated the Walk to Kyiv project's launch, within which he will walk from the Polish-Ukrainian border to Kyiv and collect 1 million euros to help Ukraine.

Why does he do it?

The Italian reporter plans to walk his long way to Kyiv to raise awareness of Russia's new stage of the war against Ukraine, which has become a less frequent topic in Western media.

What is the solution?

The journalist goes along the E373 road from the Polish border to Kyiv. Now, Carboni is already in the Kyiv region. He had about 200 kilometers to go to his goal.

The Italian first visited Ukraine in 2018, when he came to study in an Erasmus program at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Back then, Kevin made friends in Kyiv who helped him organize the initiative

How does it work?

Kevin will donate the money to Voices of Children, which provides psychological assistance to children affected by the war, and the Energy Act For Ukraine, which aims to provide solar panels with energy-saving systems to hospitals and schools.

Such "marathon" initiatives are not a rare occasion to draw attention to war and raise money for Ukrainians. For example, Petro Skrypka, a 32-year-old volunteer soldier and veteran of the Azov unit, has walked from Kyiv to Lviv to raise funds for wounded soldiers.

The route of the "marathon" ran through Zhytomyr and Rivne, and Petro walked about 30 kilometers a day on average. He covered 540 kilometers to reach the western city and complete his mission.
