UN allocates $123 mln as winter support for Ukraine

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will allocate $123 million for targeted assistance in the winter period to victims of the war in Ukraine.

This is reported by Rubryka, referring to the report of the UNHCR.

This assistance will be provided in cash from September 2023 to February 2024 to cover the costs of electricity and housing rent. In places where cash is unavailable, UNHCR and partners will distribute heaters and non-food items and provide shelter.

According to UN estimates, 450,000 people in Ukraine will receive cash. Another 15,750 people will be provided with housing or means of heating.

In addition, 250,000 people will be provided with non-food items needed for the winter, including thermal blankets, kitchen sets, mattresses, sleeping bags, lamps, thermoses, and towels. Another 62,250 people will receive winter jackets and shoes.

The UN will also repair heating and electricity supply systems in 362 buildings where 18,000 people live. In addition, generators sufficient to serve 104,000 people have been prepared and will be distributed as needed. In general, the UN promises to help 900,000 people in Ukraine who suffered due to the war.

At the same time, the UN will allocate $5.2 million to help 55 thousand refugees in Moldova. These funds will support more than 20 public spaces, including refugee accommodation centers and children's institutions.
