Solutions to win: Ukrainian Armored Vehicles company introduces self-propelled guns "Bohdana" in multiple variations

The Ukrainian self-propelled wheeled howitzers 2С22 "Bohdana" are produced for the Armed Forces in several variants.

The general director of the company Ukrainian Armored Vehicles, Vladyslav Belbas, talked about this in the Security Talks program.

What is the problem?

Ukraine at the front still needs reliable and highquality military equipment used by NATO countries, which can protect Ukraine's military as much as possible and that refers to tanks and armored vehicles.

Moreover, artillery has a high accuracy in hitting enemy targets.

However, the military equipment provided by the allied countries for the Armed Forces is insufficient to help the Ukrainian military carry out a counteroffensive.

In his turn, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, during his speech at the Yalta European Strategy, noted that the Cabinet of Ministers [Ukraine's government – ed.] has already invested tens of billions of hryvnias in the domestic military industry.

According to the Prime Minister, the Ukrainian authorities plan to expand investments in the domestic military industry.

What is the solution?

Ukrainian Armored Vehicles company participates in the production of domestic self-propelled artillery.

Ultimately, the self-propelled guns became the first Ukrainian creation that met the NATO standard for a 155 mm caliber.

How does it work?

As reported, the arms company:

  • carries out work on the reservation of wheeled chassis,
  • installs an armored cabin, protecting the gunners from bullets and shrapnel.

According to Belbas, "Bohdana" is currently produced to meet the needs of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in several variants.

This refers to self-propelled guns on the MAZ-6317 and Tatra T815-7 chassis, which Ukrainian artillerymen already use at the front.

Vladyslav Belbas noted that this approach was a conscious decision. It helped speed up the production of new wheeled artillery installations and their transfer to the Ukrainian army.

Several concepts were implemented and put into operation to speed up its serial production.

For obvious reasons, the exact number of domestic "Bohdana" self-propelled guns ordered is a secret. However, the general director of Ukrainian Armored Vehicles" emphasized that the current order allows the number of released artillery units to be revised upwards.

He also noted that the Ukrainian wheeled 155 mm howitzer project is developing.

"This is not wishful thinking; I state this as a fact that it is developing. And you will be very surprised when you see the results," Belbas emphasized.

It should be noted that, earlier, the developers revealed the characteristics of the 2C22 "Bohdana" self-propelled guns. It was reported that the artillery unit with a 155 mm gun with a length of 52 calibers has a rate of fire of 5 rounds per minute. Transportable ammunition consists of 20 shells.

The cannon's rotation angle horizontally is from -30 to 30 degrees, and the elevation is from -5 to 65 degrees. The firing range is up to 40-42 km. It takes one and a half minutes to bring the "Bohdana" into combat position and the same amount of time to put it into transport position.

For reference:

Note that in June of this year, the defense industry of Ukraine produced more mortar and artillery shells than last year.

In addition, it was reported that Ukraine and Sweden agreed on the joint production of the CV-90 infantry armored vehicles.
