"We are creating a new profession in Ukraine – a veteran's assistant. So that there was not the chaos we saw in 2014-15, and the demobilized veterans faced the same bureaucratic problems and obstacles they had to deal with then. This will enable military and veterans to simplify their retraining, higher education and give them the impetus to be more competitive in the labor market after returning to civilian life. Such Centers will also become hubs for discussions and meetings of veterans and military personnel, planning joint business models or public activity. And obtaining a professional education and a well-paid job will enable them to care for their family," stressed Oleksandr Porkhun, First Deputy Minister of Veteran Affairs of Ukraine.

Zhytomyr became the new place of application of the forces of the pilot project of the Ministry of Veterans because the Polytechnic University showed a corresponding initiative. Secondly, a significant veteran corps will be formed in this city after the Victory.

"Just the capabilities that the Zhytomyr Polytechnic is currently building, the professions and educational specialties that they can provide are essential for veterans so that after returning from the army, the defenders can apply the skills acquired in the service in peaceful life. Such a collaboration of military experience with civilians will form a powerful development case for them in the context of further employment and activity already on the economic front of the reconstruction of the state," Oleksandr Porkhun explained the prerequisites for the university's involvement in the project of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs.

Thanks to its resources, the University equipped the Center at its own expense. In particular, equipment for inclusion was purchased within the framework of international projects and grants. Also, since 2016, more than 700 combatants have received professional training and continue developing new directions.

There are also plans to teach veterans foreign languages, opening up significant opportunities for self-realization and development. Simultaneously, the "Lifelong Education" program, aimed at career professionals, continues to progress offering a variety of welding classes, control of heavy machinery and robots, water supply and drainage systems making it available to veterans so they can refine the skills they obtained during their war/ military service. As such, drone operators are being retrained as specialists in unmanned surveillance of power grids or using UAVs in the agricultural industry. The educational institution has a powerful technical base to ensure such a transformation as best as possible.

It is worth mentioning that more than 700 people from this university's teaching staff and students have already been mobilized to the army and defense forces.
