South Korea's President makes surprise visit to Kyiv

Yonhap

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol arrived in Kyiv on Saturday and will meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky, his office said.

The previously unannounced visit follows Yoon's attendance at the NATO summit in Lithuania and an official stop in Poland.

Yoon has already visited Bucha and Irpin in Kyiv during his visit to Ukraine. He will also meet with Zelensky in the near future to discuss further assistance and the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.

The South Korean President plans to lay a wreath at the war monument before meeting with the Ukrainian President.

This visit concludes a two-stage trip during which he previously visited Lithuania for the NATO summit and then paid an official visit to Poland, Yoon's press service emphasized.

On July 13, Poland and South Korea agreed to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine and signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of post-war reconstruction.

At the end of May, Ukrainian and Korean infrastructure ministries signed a Memorandum on Strengthening Cooperation in the Field of Ukraine's Reconstruction.

South Korea has recently provided non-lethal assistance to Ukraine, which is fighting Russian aggression.

The state will also receive "smart city" development platforms from South Korea.
