New EU law tightens loopholes Russia uses to evade sanctions

The European Union has released details on the content of the 11th sanctions package, which was officially adopted by the EU Council today.

This is stated in the statement published today on the website of the European Council.

"Our sanctions are already taking a heavy toll on the Russian economy and on the Kremlin's ability to finance its aggression. Today's package increases our pressure on Russia and Putin's war machine. By tackling sanctions circumvention, we will maximize pressure on Russia by depriving it further of the resources it so desperately needs to allow it to pursue its illegal war against Ukraine," said High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

As the head of the Ukrainian President's Office, Andrii Yermak, reported on Telegram, adding a corresponding screenshot of the message from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, the new eleventh package of European Union sanctions against the Russian Federation contains a mechanism to counteract the circumvention of restrictions by Russia, which should negatively affect the Russian military-industrial complex and their ability to produce missiles.

"With the help of this mechanism, it is planned to limit the sale and transfer of sensitive technologies and dual-use products to other countries that help Russians to circumvent sanctions," Yermak wrote.

On June 21, EU ambassadors agreed on the 11th sanctions package against Russia.

Previously, ISW reported that international sanctions affect the activities of Russian technology companies, in particular Yandex.

At the same time, Britain declared that it would maintain sanctions against the Russian Federation until Moscow pays compensation to Ukraine.
