Chateau Chizay crafts unique orange wine in Transcarpathia

Winery specialists in Transcarpathia have created a unique terroir orange wine from the Furmint Orange variety.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported at the Chateau Chizay winery in Transcarpathia.

"Furmint Orange is a special dry wine from the Furmint variety, created using skin-contact technology (when the juice ferments on the skin of the berries). These wines are called Amber or Orange Wine (amber or orange wine) in different countries. Wine from white grapes is created in the same way as from red, without separating the juice from the pulp, it adds an original aroma and taste to the wine," said Olesia Spitsyna, commercial director of the winery.

According to her, the wine acquires a unique golden color after aging in oak barrels; it has the aroma of ripe fruits.

As the winery explains, orange wine is trendy now, and other Ukrainian wineries also produce it. However, the Furmint variety is exclusive to Transcarpathia regarding wine production.

So far, a limited series of 2,000 bottles has been released. The wine has already received a silver medal at the Wine & Spirits Ukraine Awards 2023.

The Chateau Chizay Open Day offered visitors their first introduction to the venue last weekend.

Chateau Chizay's Orange wine is ideal for aperitifs and pairs well with dishes of all sorts, even spicy or exotic. For optimal enjoyment, serve and consume at a temperature of 1012 degrees Celsius.

It has been reported that the history of the technology used to create orange (or amber, copper, etc. ) wines dates back thousands of years, with the initial trials performed by early civilizations.

It is generally accepted that the homeland of the style is Georgia. In the 20th century, Slovenia and Italy also made orange-style wines famous. For more than a decade, there has been a steady rise in the popularity of "orange" wine, with its desirability gradually spreading around the globe.
