Ukraine wins a gold at European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Baku

Ukrainian athlete Victoria Onoprienko won a gold medal at the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Baku.

This gold was the first for Ukraine in individual exercises since 2005, the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine says.

The Ukrainian athlete, with a score of 33.250 points, became the best in the exercises with a hoop, ahead of Israel's Adi Asya Katz (32.600) and Bulgaria's Boryana Kalein (32.250).

The 19-year-old athlete from Kyiv had no equal in the hoop exercises, where she received a winning 33.250 for her "Carmen" performance, the NOC reported.

This medal was the first in the continental championships for Onoprienko.

This award of the highest standard was the first for Ukraine since 2005 in individual competitions. 18 years ago, Natalia Godunko became the European champion in ribbon exercises.

Earlier, the Ukrainian national team won silver in the team championship at the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Baku.
