Cyprus offers Ukraine demining training

Cyprus will offer Ukraine technical training to demine territories as part of humanitarian aid, Defense Minister Michalis Georgallas told Sigma TV.

Reuters reports that Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov, who is visiting Cyprus on Friday, plans to look at the areas where they will be trained.

"We will host personnel which will handle de-mining and detection of mines," said the Cyprus Defense Minister.

Politis reports that a group of about 18 Ukrainian officers will be in Cyprus to study in the last week of April.

Cyprus was split in a Turkish invasion in 1974 after a brief Greek-inspired coup. A 180 km dividing line across Cyprus was dotted with minefields until the two sides started clearing areas in the past decade with assistance from the United Nations.
