Ukraine jumps to top 20 in ranking of world's most influential countries: Global Soft Power Index
Ukraine is on the list of the 20 most influential countries in the world according to the Global Soft Power Index 2023 and became the first country to move up so rapidly in the ranking, writes the director of the Ukrainian Institute, Volodymyr Sheyko.
The results were presented in London at the Global Soft Power Summit 2023.
Ukraine took 37th place out of 121 overall and 19th place in terms of influence. For comparison, in 2021, Ukraine was in 61st place, and in terms of influence, it was in 45th place.
Countries' recognition and reputation are among the studied indicators of the Global Soft Power Index. In terms of the level of recognition, Ukraine "grew" from 47th to 14th place in the world in a year, and according to the reputation index, it moved from 70th to 68th place. The growth of the second assessment is restrained by respondents from Asia, who believe that Ukraine's reputation has decreased somewhat.
"The report on the perception of Ukraine in the world-2022 clearly showed that Ukraine is no longer terra incognita," said Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba. – This is confirmed by Ukraine's results in the Global Soft Power Index 2023. Over the past year, Ukraine has made great efforts to tell its story, create its narrative and gain support. The current result is an achievement of the courageous Ukrainian people, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, our Armed Forces, and all those who told the story of Ukraine."

The Global Soft Power Index 2023 is the world's most comprehensive study of the perception of national brands, with coverage of more than 100,000 respondents, conducted by Brand Finance. The index shows a country's ability to influence others through attraction and persuasion rather than coercion and force.
The overall soft power index is based on an assessment of a country's recognition, reputation, and influence, as well as on such indicators as business and trade, media and communications, culture and heritage, education and science, people and values, international relations, governance, and sustainable development.
