The Ukrainian border guard shot down a russian attack jet on February 7 near the fortress city of Bakhmut in the eastern region of Donetsk.

According to the Telegram channel of Ukraine's State Border Service, the border guards reportedly downed the Su-25 jet.

"In the sky over Bakhmut, border guards shot down a russian attack aircraft," the report said.

Further, it is reported that enemy aircraft took a flight to cover the russian infantry soldiers as they advanced into the Ukrainian line of defense.

Ukrainian soldiers used MANPADS to shoot down a russian attack aircraft. After being struck by a missile, the jet crashed and caught fire. What happened to the pilot is currently unknown.

Border guards also released a video from the crash site of a russian Su-25.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in his nightly address that Ukrainian forces continue to hold Bakhmut days after stating to the world that the battlefield situation in eastern Ukraine was "extremely challenging." He stated Monday night that Ukrainian soldiers are "countering" russian forces who are still attempting to encircle the city.

According to the Washington-based research tank Institute for the Study of War, russian forces had not yet encircled Bakhmut, citing battlefield reports from Ukrainian soldiers and confirming Zelensky's statement.

The battle for the eastern city of Bakhmut, Ukraine's largest flashpoint, has unfolded since August 2022.

According to the report, the russians are losing 500 soldiers daily due to their unrelenting assaults on Bakhmut. Ukraine estimates its losses to be less severe.

As russian regular forces continued their attempts to surround the city, russia made a decision to replace Wagner Group's mercenaries with regular troops, according to ISW analysts, to intensify the offensive on Bakhmut.
