EU ambassadors have reached impasse on ninth package of sanctions against russia

Since the heads of the foreign policy departments of the EU states have different opinions on a number of issues, the European Union has not yet agreed on the ninth package of sanctions against the russian federation.

This is reported by inance.yahoo.com.

This was announced on Monday, December 12, by the EU's top representative for foreign policy, Josep Borrell, adding that it will not be an easy task.

"Ministers have not reached an agreement, but I hope it will be reached this week," he told reporters after a meeting with his colleagues in Brussels.

The EU's new sanctions package against russia is still in the negotiation stage, and Europe's top diplomat hopes that success will be achieved this week.

"I thought that this morning we could approve the start of work on sanctions, but this is not the case. Maybe by the end of the day," Borrell said.

Reference

We will remind that, on December 7, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the prepared proposals for the ninth package of EU sanctions against russia. Among other things, this package complements the EU's complete ban on the import of oil from the russian federation by sea, as well as the limitation of world oil prices agreed upon by the G7 countries. However, negotiations between EU ambassadors on the ninth package of sanctions against the russian federation have reached an impasse.

The European Union ambassadors are meeting to discuss the ninth package of sanctions against russia. The restrictions presented in the document preliminarily contain many deviations, which makes the package weaker.
