President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Europe to completely overcome its dependence on russian energy resources.

The head of state said this during a speech at the International Symposium, The Idea of Europe, in Kaunas.

"This year, Europe is finally carrying out the energy disarmament of russia. The continent's dependence on russian energy resources has begun to decrease. And it should disappear completely. And one of the key tools is the limitation of russian earnings from the export of resources. In Europe and the world, they have already started talking about introducing price caps, that is, about forced limitation of the price of russian oil. And there are talks about the level of allegedly 60 or 70 dollars. Undoubtedly, such words are fixes. It is more like an attempt to portray something rather than to do something," Zelensky said.

The President thanked his Polish and Baltic colleagues for their proposals because limiting the price to $30 per barrel appears more appropriate.

"I thank you that such a proposal was heard and defended. Now is the time to ensure such an achievement for Europe. And based on this and other similar achievements, none of Europe's potential enemies will be able to blackmail our continent with energy weapons," Zelensky emphasized.

He emphasized that Europe's energy security, and thus price security, will now be based primarily on cooperation and solidarity between Europeans and European energy rules.
