Another city in Finland to turn on Ukraine's national anthem

The Finnish city of Lappeenranta, located near the border with Russia, will play the national anthem of Ukraine every day starting Friday.

Yle reports.

The anthem will be played from the roof of the city theater in the Iso-Kristiina shopping center every day at 19:30 local time. It is how the city wants to demonstrate its support for Ukrainians.

"I believe that the national anthem creates a sense of unity and unites Ukrainians living here, as well as other residents of Lappeenranta," said Mayor Kimmo Järva.

In addition, in Lappeenranta, the Ukrainian flag will be raised on the flagpole in front of the town hall and the port.

As Yle notes, in the neighboring city of Imatra, the national anthem of Ukraine began to be played from the end of July.

Earlier, the youth department of the coalition party of Finland (Kokoomusnuoret) bought an advertising board at the Vaalimaa border crossing point, placing an advertisement there with a reminder of russia's military actions in Ukraine.

Earlier, Rubryka reported that 32,700 Ukrainians applied to Finland for temporary protection after russia invaded Ukraine. This year, Finland has not taken a single unfavorable decision on applications for temporary protection, the Migration Service reports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland reported that Finland allocated an additional 70 million euros for humanitarian aid to Ukraine and development cooperation. Long-term development projects include collaboration in education, the rule of law, energy, and climate sustainability.

On June 10, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö approved the government's proposal to send more military equipment to Ukraine. The Defense Ministry stressed that it would not disclose any content or schedule information about the assistance.

"Finland will not forget Ukraine and Ukrainians. We continue to help, and we're sending a new package of defense equipment," the Minister of Defense Antti Kaikkonen added. The government compiled Finland's additional military-technical assistance package considering the current needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the resource capacity of their own Defense Forces.

Yle reported that Sauli Niinistö, President of Finland, agreed to the government's proposal to provide Ukraine with another aid package worth over €20 million. This will be the seventh assistance package provided by Finland.
