President of European Council promised heavy weapons for Ukraine

The President of the European Council Charles Michel acknowledged that the European Union had agreed to purchase heavy weapons for free transfer to Ukraine.

The European Pravda reported this.

Charles Michel said that the EU agreed on arms supplies to Ukraine back in February, although at the beginning of the talks he was not sure of success.

"I remember very well how two days after the start of the war, President Zelenskyy called me and asked me to coordinate the provision of weapons to Ukraine. It was a very difficult decision for the EU, we have not done it yet. But we managed in a few hours!" he said.

The President of the European Council is known to chair meetings of the Heads of State and Government of the European Union and is responsible for preparing draft decisions of this body.

"In the two months since then, we have already allocated (for non-refundable procurement for the Ukkrainian Armed Forces) 1.5 billion euros through the European Peace Facility. And this is in addition to the bilateral support from many EU member states. But this help is not enough. We have and will do even more," the politician admitted.

He also said that the EU had understood the need to supply heavy weapons to Ukraine, but these purchases will not be announced.

"We need to supply you with heavy weapons. There will not be much news about this, for security reasons. But we are committed to supplying you with these weapons. This is the first. It is very important and very urgent," he said.

The President of the European Council also stated that Ukraine would definitely win the war with russia.
