Court redirected more than 650,000 euros of russian origin to the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces

The Lychakiv District Court of Lviv lifted the seizure of cash in the amount of 650.2 thousand euros of russian origin. They will be sent to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation on Facebook.

"In the context of russian aggression, the State Bureau of Investigation is increasing the rate of detection and return of russian funds to the state budget of Ukraine. According to the court decision, more than 650,000 euros will be transferred to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the deal to compensate for the death of the trawler, which was owned by our state," the statement reads.

State Bureau of Investigation officers found that officials of a state-owned enterprise under the control of the State Fisheries Agency of Ukraine had conspired with representatives of foreign companies, including russian ones.

They planned to misappropriate funds by artificially reducing the amount of compensation for the death of a fishing trawler in Mauritania's territorial waters in July 2019, which was owned by Ukraine. The real market value of the ship at the time of its death was 10 million US dollars.

During the pre-trial investigation of the criminal proceedings, the fact of unreasonable transfer of funds in the amount of 650,200 euros from a bank account opened in the russian federation for allegedly settling a dispute over a flooded trawler in the territorial waters of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania was recorded, although in fact, this decision was in no way agreed by the Ukrainian side. Subsequently, the court seized the money.

In connection with the imposition of martial law, at the initiative of the Prosecutor General's Office, the joint position of the State Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the State Agency for Land Reclamation and Fisheries of Ukraine, the investigating judge of the Lychakiv District Court of Lviv granted the prosecutor's request, 650,2 thousand euros of russian origin, and their transfer to the account of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

The State Bureau of Investigation emphasizes that the amount of money and the amount of property confiscated from the russian aggressors and their accomplices in favor of Ukraine would increase day by day.
