Ukraine hopes that the UN International Court of Justice can order Russia to end the war today
Oksana Zolotariova, director of the International Law Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said this at a hearing at the International Court of Justice on Wednesday morning, the Ukrinform correspondent reports.
She also noted that the degree of personal responsibility for the war crimes of the Russian invaders would be determined by the International Criminal Court.
Zolotariova reminded that today the UN International Court of Justice will announce a decision on the application of temporary measures to Russia in the case of genocide charges.
"The court has its own discretion as to what interim measures should be applied to Russia.
Of course, we ask the court to order Russia to end the war it started on accusations of genocide in Ukraine.
International justice doesn't always do what the plaintiff expects and demands, but we still hope for a positive decision in relation to Ukraine," said the co-agent of Ukraine.
She explained that today's decision will concern only the application of temporary measures, such as the arrest in Ukraine on suspicion.
"After that, the case will be considered on the merits, and Russia will be ordered to take some further steps, including calling on the court to recognize that Russia must pay reparations to Ukraine for its invasions," said the director of the Foreign Ministry.
She stressed that the decisions of the UN International Court of Justice on the application of interim measures were binding on all UN member states.
"Of course, we will expect Russia to comply with the decision of the International Court of Justice. However, even if it does not comply, it will give the Ukrainian side additional leverage as a partner.
In order for them to support Ukraine, and for international organizations to make more favorable decisions for Ukraine," Zolotariova said.
The Director of the Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that all war crimes are investigated by the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.
"The International Criminal Court, located next to the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague, has also launched an investigation into the situation in Ukraine.
It will consider the criminal responsibility of individuals for war crimes. Already 41 countries have appealed to the International Criminal Court to speed up its investigation," Zolotariova said.

Вона також зазначила, що міру особистої відповідальності за воєнні злочини російських загарбників визначить Міжнародний кримінальний суд.
Золотарьова нагадала, що сьогодні Міжнародний суд ООН оголосить рішення щодо застосування тимчасових заходів до рф у справі звинувачень у геноциді.
"Суд має власну дискрецію щодо того, які тимчасові заходи застосувати по відношенню до рф.
Звісно, ми просимо суд, щоб він наказав росії припинити війну, яку вона розпочала за звинуваченнями України в геноциді.
Міжнародне правосуддя не завжди робить те, чого очікує і чого вимагає позивач, але все ж таки ми сподіваємося на позитивне рішення по відношенню до України", сказала коагент України.
Вона пояснила, що сьогоднішнє рішення стосуватиметься виключно застосування тимчасових заходів, як, приміром, в Україні арешт під час вручення підозри.
"Після того справа буде розглядатися вже по суті, і там росії буде наказано зробити якісь подальші кроки, в тому числі ми закликаємо суд визнати, що росія має виплатити Україні репарації за свої вторгнення", зазначила директор Департаменту МЗС.

Вона акцентувала, що рішення Міжнародного суду ООН про застосування тимчасових заходів є обов'язковими для виконання всіма державами-членами ООН.
"Ми, звісно, будемо очікувати, що росія виконає рішення Міжнародного суду. Проте, навіть якщо вона не виконає, це надасть українській стороні додаткових важелів впливу як на партнерів.
Для того, щоб вони підтримували Україну, так і для міжнародних організацій, щоб вони приймали більше вигідних для України рішень", зазначила Золотарьова.
Директор Департаменту МЗС акцентувала, що всі воєнні злочини розслідуються Генеральною прокуратурою України.
"Міжнародний кримінальний суд, який розташований поруч з Міжнародним судом ООН у Гаазі, також розпочав розслідування щодо ситуації в Україні.
Він розглядатиме кримінальну відповідальність окремих осіб за вчинення воєнних злочинів. Уже 41 країна звернулася до Міжнародного кримінального суду, щоб він пришвидшив своє розслідування", зауважила Золотарьова.
