The United Nations says it has no evidence that Ukraine has a biological weapons program

The EP reports, according to Reuters.

At the time, Washington and its allies accused Russia of spreading unproven statements as a possible prelude to carrying out its own biological or chemical attacks.

Russia reportedly convened a 15-member UN Security Council meeting. Through its envoy, Vasyl Nebenzi, without providing evidence, it said that Ukraine operated biological weapons laboratories with the support of the US Department of Defense.

Member states called the statement a "lie" and "complete nonsense" and used the session to accuse Russia of deliberately targeting and killing hundreds of civilians in Ukraine.

Izumi Nakamitsu, the UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, told the Council that the UN was "unaware" of any biological weapons program in Ukraine that had joined an international ban on such weapons as Russia and the United States, along with 180 others.

Under the 2005 agreement, the Pentagon has helped several Ukrainian health laboratories improve the safety of hazardous pathogens and technologies used for research. These efforts have been supported by other countries and the World Health Organization.

To recap, the WHO has recommended that Ukraine destroy high-risk pathogens contained in its health laboratories to prevent "any potential leaks" that could spread the disease to the public.

US Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said Washington was "deeply concerned" that Russia had convened the session to lay the groundwork for Ukraine's own use of biological or chemical weapons.

Although it did not provide any evidence of an imminent threat from Russia during the meeting, the ambassador said: "Russia has experience of false accusations of other countries in violations committed by Moscow itself."

To recap, the military and diplomats of the aggressor country are spreading false information about the alleged production of biological weapons in Ukrainian laboratories.

In particular, Russia accuses Ukraine of breeding new variants of the disease.

In this regard, the Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko called on the representatives of the World Health Organization to refute the fakes spread by Russia.
