UN International Court of Justice sets a date for the first trial against Russia

The UN International Court of Justice has stated that on March 7-8 it will hold a hearing on Ukraine's lawsuit against Russia for violating the Convention on the Prevention of the Crime of Genocide

This was reported by the press service of the court on Tuesday, the European Pravda writes.

"The International Court of Justice, the main judicial body of the United Nations, will hold public hearings on genocide charges under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Ukraine vs. Russia) on Monday the 7th and Tuesday the 8th March 2022 at the Peace Palace in The Hague", the message says.

The hearings will be dedicated to the request submitted by Ukraine for the imposition of temporary measures.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, hearings will be held in a hybrid format.

Representatives of the parties to the case will participate in person or by video call.

On February 26, 2022, Ukraine filed a lawsuit with the UN International Court of Justice alleging that Russia violated the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

Ukraine also immediately filed a request for precautionary measures, in which it asks the UN Security Council to order Russia to stop the war in Ukraine.
