A unique modern forest nursery to be built in Uzhhorod forestry

The modern nursery will have an automatic watering and ventilation system for growing trees that are resistant and adapted to the effects of climate change.

Uzhhorod Forestry starts cross-border cooperation with Slovakia. Forestry and the project entitled "Ways to Healthy Forests: Strengthening the Sustainability, Viability, and Adaptability of Forests in the Border Regions of Ukraine and Slovakia" aims to strengthen the resilience and adaptability of Carpathian forest ecosystems due to climate change impacts on particularly vulnerable climates of Ukrainian Carpathians and the High Tatras.

Within the project, Uzhhorod Forestry will be one of the first to build a unique and the only modern forest nursery in the region with an innovative greenhouse measuring 12.8 by 81 meters. The total area of ​​the nursery is 1036.8 square meters, location is Velyki Lazy Village.

"The modern nursery will have an automatic irrigation and ventilation system for growing planting material of the main forest-forming tree species with a closed root system, resistant and adapted to the climate change," said Volodymyr Zvarych, Acting Director of Uzhhorod Forestry.

It is also planned to build an administrative and household outbuilding, a canopy for storage of substrate and equipment, a guard post, an exhibition site of planting material, a well of technical water for irrigation, local treatment plants such as Biotal.

It is reported that all grown seedlings with high survival will be used by forests of the Zakarpattia region to create more environmentally sustainable forest plantations.
