Free organic composting training launched in Ukraine

From October 19 to 21, Ukraine will host an online training on the possibilities of organic composting for residents of apartment buildings.

The initiative is implemented by the NGO Plato with the support of UNDP in Ukraine.

Organic waste makes up from 30% to 50% of the total amount of solid household waste generated by Ukrainians.

Organics in landfills often lead to fires. Combustion releases large amounts of toxic substances and greenhouse gases into the air, which exacerbate climate change and adversely affect human health.

What is this project about?

"Safari for communities: composting in cities" is a three-day training course for active and caring residents of apartment buildings who want to solve the problem of waste sorting, gain expert support and gain new knowledge to combat wasteful use of resources.

Participants will learn about:

– the connection between poor waste management and climate change and environmental problems in communities;

– 'road map' for starting composting in a residential building;

– work features of the only municipal composting station in Ukraine;

– work with residents and their motivation;

– good composting practices in Ukraine and abroad.

The final step is testing, upon successful completion of which participants will receive a certificate of successful completion of the course and the title of "composting safari ambassador."

Registration for the program is open until October 17 (including) at the link.
