The original of Pylyp Orlyk's Constitution will be brought to Ukraine for the first time on August 16 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Independence.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this during the presentation of the concept of celebrating Independence Day during the forum "Ukraine 30. Image of Ukraine," Ukrinform reports.

"The struggle for Independence lasted more than one day, so we'll celebrate the victory in this struggle more than one day; a week before Independence Day and for the first time in the history of our country, the original Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk will arrive in Ukraine. Citizens will be able to see the original in St. Sophia Cathedral," Zelenskyy said.

He added that the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence was a very important day because it's an opportunity to understand what Ukrainians learned during the years of independence and what they still have to learn to never lose it; it's what the celebration is dedicated to.

The President noted that the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Independence would consist of 10 main events.

Note

Pylyp Orlyk's constitution was adopted by the Cossack council in Bender in 1710. Then it was the territory of the Ottoman Empire. Cossacks and officers found themselves there after the unsuccessful Battle of Poltava. It has a preamble, 16 articles, and an oath of the hetman.

The Constitution was concluded in two copies: in Old Ukrainian and Latin. The one written in Latin is stored in the National Archives of Sweden. The document in Old Ukrainian is stored in Moscow.
