Firefighters eliminated 6 out of 8 major fires in Luhansk region

The key points of fire are being doused in the Luhansk region, and as of the morning of October 5, six of the eight fires have been extinguished.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) reports. 

"As of 9:00 am on October 5, six out of eight major fires in forests, reeds, and dry vegetation have been eliminated, one fire has been localized, and measures are being taken to localize a forest fire in the Smolianynovo area."

Thus, the localization of the fire №1 continues. It broke out on the outskirts of Smolianynovo village, the Novoaidar district, where the fire covered over 1.4 thousand hectares of forest.

"Forces and means of the State Emergency Service are focused on protecting settlements, field artillery of the Armed Forces near Borovenky village and gas distribution station on the outskirts of Oleksandrivka village. Heavy engineering equipment of the Armed Forces (BAT) is working. 717 people and 109 units of equipment involved.  Due to the integrated use of ground forces and aircraft, it prevented the fire from spreading to settlements, there was no need for evacuation."

"According to preliminary estimates, the approximate area covered by the fire of all seven points is over 20 thousand hectares."

During the forest fires, they found the bodies of 11 people, three of whom died because of combustion product poisoning, one person died from burns, three people died from heart attacks and the cause of death of four more is being established. 18 people were injured (including three SES officers).

150 people were evacuated during firefighting.
