"Chemistry" needs to develop between Zelenskyy and Biden: what can Ukraine expect from Washington presidential meeting
Rubryka looked at the mood of the White House about Ukraine on the eve of the meeting between Zelenskyy and Biden, as well as what the Ukrainian President should do to make it a success.
The meeting of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the President of the United States Joe Biden has been postponed again. This time, for one day: from 30 to 31 August. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba assures that the reason has been the expansion of the meeting format, for which they need to properly prepare. If earlier the talks were to take place exclusively in the format of delegations, now, according to the Minister, Biden and Zelenskyy will also talk tête-à-tête.
"Because of the expansion of the visit program, the meeting of Presidents Zelenskyy and Biden will take place on August 31. We agreed to postpone it for one day since the meeting format was expanded to include not only a meeting of delegations but also a face-to-face meeting," Kuleba said.
And although the public reacted to the next postponement of negotiations skeptically, experts say: the postponement is necessary. And it is connected with more urgent affairs and tasks for the USA.
"Amid the situation in Afghanistan and the fierce discussion on this issue in the American media, Biden likely had some circumstances that require a postponement of the meeting with Zelenskyy," the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine of 2003-2005 and 2010-2012, Kostiantyn Hryshchenko, said.
The same opinion is shared by the associate professor of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Mykola Kapitonenko. According to him, the postponement of the meeting is explained by the fact that "Biden now has enough problems without Ukraine."
Rubryka analyzed what Ukraine can expect from Zelenskyy's meeting with Biden: reaching a new level of relations between the countries, or great photos of the head of our state in the White House, together with formal assurances of comprehensive support.
