How to save 3 lives in 15 minutes, or why donate blood right now
From time to time, we all see stories about blood donors, meet people with donor badges on clothes or backpacks, and see someone on Facebook congratulating us on Blood Donor Day. All this gives the impression that there are many donors, and blood in hospitals, respectively, too. But this is not the case. And a possible military escalation with Russia only aggravates this issue. Here's how to help.
Rubryka traditionally explains who needs your blood, how the donation is good for your health, and what you need to know before going to donate blood.
What is the problem?
In suddenness of it appearing
Who needs your blood? Women who've started bleeding during childbirth, people who've had an accident, patients struggling with certain cancers, and many others. And also, the wounded soldiers who are defending the country. Usually, the need for donated blood appears suddenly and becomes extremely acute each time.
According to Donor.ua, to meet the country's blood needs, it is necessary for donors to make 33 donations per thousand inhabitants per year. In Ukraine, the number of such donations is much lower, 11.28.
Blood donated by a donor at one time is divided into three components, which can be received by three people. In this way, the donor saves three lives.
