Timeline: day 141 of Ukraine's defense against russia's aggression
Today is July 14. russia's military attack on Ukraine has been going on for 141 days. We're reporting on the current news. The article will be updated.
What about today?
Key points
In four weeks, HIMARS destroyed more than 50 large targets: command centers, arsenals, oil depots, missile depots. Without ammunition, russian artillery lost 60-70% of its effectiveness. The latest russian anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems proved utterly defenseless against the missiles the Ukrainians were firing at russian positions. The russians are incapable of shooting down these missiles. Unable to defend headquarters and bases. Unable to do anything against HIMARS.
By mid-August, Ukraine will probably have at least 20 HIMARS systems. Correct use will allow the transition from strategic to tactical goals, opening the possibility of de-occupation of the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv regions.
Over the past day, five russian warehouses with weapons were destroyed.
The latest information as of the morning of July 14 from the General Staff:
- In the Sloviansk direction, the enemy tried to conduct an assault in the direction of Kurulka, was unsuccessful, and retreated.
- In the direction of Bakhmut, Ukrainian soldiers repelled assaults in the direction of Kodema and Vershyna.
- Yesterday's information about the offensive of russian troops on Verkhnokamianske, through which the road to Siversk from Lysychansk passes, has been confirmed. The fighting continues there.
- To the north of Avdiivka, the enemy has partial success in attacking the village of Kamianka. It is located on the Donetsk-Kostiantynivka highway.
- There are recorded cases of the inadequate food supply of the occupying troops. According to the available information, the staffing level of platoon commanders in the 2nd Combined Arms Army of the Central Military District units remains low. The reason is significant losses and refusal to participate in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine struck two control points of russian troops and the landing site in Nova Kakhovka, the South operational command reports. Also, during the previous day, Ukrainian defenders eliminated 13 russian service members and six armored vehicles: Eleron-3 UAV and a kamikaze drone. The losses of the enemy are specified.
In the Donetsk region, russian forces continue to launch artillery strikes and attempt assaults but have not made significant territorial gains in the past 72 hours and risk losing military potential, British intelligence says.
More than 40 countries supported Ukraine's claim against the russian federation to the International Court of Justice of the United Nations. The lawsuit's purpose is to prove that russia had no legal grounds for military action in Ukraine. Also, the russian federation does not and has never had any excuses for using genocide against Ukrainians.
Who's coming to Ukraine?
On financial and information aid, weapons and politicians
The weapon that Ukraine is asking for from its Western partners can be compared to a vaccine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an address to the participants of the Asian Leadership conference in Seoul. Zelensky emphasized that the supply of weapons was needed not only for the defense of Ukraine but also for the benefit of those who supply them. "It's like with vaccines: if you don't help other peoples, be prepared for the emergence of new strains of the virus that will make your protection invalid," the president compared.
Military aid to Ukraine from the United States after the start of hostilities exceeded $7.3 billion, Jessica Lewis, Assistant Secretary of the State Department for Military and Political Affairs, said. According to her data, weapons for Ukraine were sent from Pentagon warehouses and other sources.
The White House said they are now focused on providing free security assistance to Ukraine, using the $40 billion allocated by Congress. After that, the US will switch to the lend-lease program, which provides for the return of funds for the received weapons.
