The Ukrainian "Khartia" brigade presented a video project to support their female comrades on the International Day of the Girl, Bazilik Media reports.

What is the problem?

Exact sciences, technologies, and engineering are known as exclusively male affairs. You have probably heard this gender bias more than once.

Stereotypes tell us that women should master other professions. A female accountant, a female doctor, a female teacher, a female beauty specialist — such models are still stable and acceptable for most Ukrainians.

Women have been fighting in the ranks of the Ukrainian army since 2014 when Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula and occupied part of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Since then, the number of women on the front line has only increased. In 2022, with the beginning of a full-scale war, women began to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine even more actively.

Over 5,000 women are directly on the front line in the danger zone, but some problems must be addressed urgently.

What is the solution?

The brigade launched a video project to support female soldiers fighting on Ukraine's battlefield. The project aims to remind Ukrainians that everyone should have access to education and career opportunities.

How does it work?

The video, titled "You can be anything you want," was posted on the military's official YouTube channel.

We are convinced that everyone's contribution to the victory is important and valuable, the brigade emphasized.

The video features servicewomen who hold various positions in the brigade, from cook to combat medic rifleman or drone operator.

Rubryka asked a servicewoman, paramedic, and the head of the medical service of the Women's Veteran Movement 'Veteranka' Yuliya Sidorova, with the call sign "Cuba," about how the attitude towards women in the Ukrainian army has changed, what stereotypes women still face, whether proper conditions have been created for women's services and what else needs to be changed.

Women in the Ukrainian army currently serve as gunners, tankers, scouts, and snipers. Previously, all these specialties were exclusively the prerogative of men. Moreover, women have recently been able to hold officer positions. However, some women still face stereotypes, devaluation, sexism, prejudice, and, of course, household issues, which, first of all, are optimized for men's needs.
