Germany greenlights arms exports: Ukraine to receive 74% of funds allotted
Ukraine will remain the leading recipient of German arms exports and receive 74% of allocated funds from Germany.
The Ministry of Finance of Germany reports this.
Based on initial data, approximately 5.2 billion euros of weapons permits were issued in the first quarter of 2024. Of this amount:
- 3.85 billion euros were allotted for military weapons;
- and 1.4 billion euros for other types of firearms.
The main recipient country was Ukraine, for which the export of arms worth about 3.8 billion euros was approved.
"Ukraine still accounts for 74% of the total cost of allocations for the first quarter of 2024, and Ukraine remains the main recipient country of German arms exports," said State Secretary Sven Giegold.
The state secretary also announced Germany's support for Ukraine.
"The figures reflect Germany's continuous and far-reaching support for Ukraine in its self-defense against Russia's war of aggression, which is contrary to international law," Giegold said.
For reference:
Germany is the second country among Ukraine's aid partners; it helps Ukraine financially and with technology. In total, Germany allocated/approved commitments for 28 billion euros for military aid to Ukraine.
It's important to mention that Warsaw and Berlin are forming a coalition of armored vehicles to assist Ukraine. This coalition, known as the Coalition of Armored Vehicles in Support of Ukraine, was established in Warsaw. The participating countries have agreed on a united stance to bolster Ukraine's armed forces' technical arsenal with specific types of armored vehicles and develop a system for their maintenance and repair.
It should be noted that Paris and Berlin recently reached an agreement that will enable the French-German company KNDS, which creates tanks, to establish a production unit in Ukraine.
It should be added that Germany recently announced that it would immediately transfer another Patriot air defense system to Ukraine.
