Russian strikes destroy Trypillia TPP in Kyiv region

The Trypillia Thermal Power Plant was completely destroyed during a large-scale Russian attack in the Kyiv region at night.

Andriy Hota, the supervisory board chairman for PJSC "Centrenergo," made this statement in a comment to "Interfax-Ukraine."

That evening, Russia launched an attack on the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant owned by the "Centrenergo" company, situated in the city of Ukrainka, Kyiv region. Users share videos of a massive fire at the station on Telegram channels.

Hota stated that the hits led to a major fire breaking out in the turbine shop.

"All workers who were on shift during the shelling are alive," Hota said.

Currently, work is being carried out to contain the fire at the enterprise.

People on social media shared news about the Trypillia TPP being hit. Ihor Mosiychuk, a former national deputy, uploaded a video on his Telegram channel showing a large fire at the station.

The mayor of Ukrainka, Oleksandr Turenko, urged the city's residents to securely close their windows to avoid inhaling harmful combustion by-products. He recommended fully charging all devices and stocking up on water.

The Obukhiv-Ukrainka road is temporarily closed.

Trypillia TPP is the most powerful power plant in the Kyiv region. This region belongs to the energy-rich areas, where energy-generating enterprises with a total capacity of 3,200 MW are located, of which the installed capacity of the Trypillia TPP is about 57%.

Therefore, the energy-generating enterprise is the largest electricity supplier in Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Zhytomyr regions.

The enterprise occupies an area of 281.3 hectares. It is located in the Obukhiv district on the bank of the Kaniv Reservoir.

On the night of April 11, Russian troops launched a large-scale aerial assault on Ukraine's territory. Multiple groups of drones were spotted in the evening, followed by missiles from strategic bombers as well as ballistic and "Kinzhal" missiles. Air defense systems were activated, and explosions shook cities such as Kharkiv and Lviv. Energy facilities were targeted in the attack.

Last night, the Air Force announced the deployment of air defense forces and equipment in southern Ukraine, specifically in the Odesa region. Subsequently, reports of air defense operations in the Kyiv region emerged, particularly in response to enemy kamikaze drones.

At around 2:30 a.m., it was reported that approximately nine Tu- 95 strategic bombers had taken off from Russia's Murmansk region. Just before 4 o'clock, the Tu–95MS bombers executed a maneuver near the launching zones, and the launch of cruise missiles was confirmed.

Later, at approximately 6 a.m., the Air Force reported the movement of four MiG-31K aircraft and was notified about the launch of "Kinzhal" aeroballistic missiles over Ukraine's territory.

There were explosions heard in Kharkiv and the surrounding area as a result of rocket attacks by the occupying forces. According to local officials, the invaders launched at least ten strikes in both the city and the surrounding region.

Explosions rang out, in particular, in Kharkiv and Lviv, energy facilities were also under attack:

  • In the Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, air defense forces and means were working due to missile attacks. In particular, the enemy launched Kinzhal missiles at Lviv.
  • In the Mykolaiv region, the wreckage of the downed Shahed drones fell in an open area; there is no information about the destruction and casualties.
  • In the Odesa region, fragments of downed kamikaze drones ignited on the territory of an energy facility – there was a fire, which has already been extinguished.
  • In the Kyiv region, there were strikes by Shahed UAVs and missiles; during the air alert, a critical infrastructure object was attacked.
  • There were reports of explosions in Kharkiv and the surrounding area caused by rocket attacks from the occupying forces. According to local authorities, the invaders launched at least ten strikes in the city and surrounding region.

During the night and morning of April 11, the Air Defense destroyed 57 air targets: 39 attack drones and 18 missiles.
