The head of the Latvian Defense Department, Andris Spruds, said that the Baltic country had made progress in creating a coalition of almost 20 countries to arm the Ukrainian military with "thousands" of new unmanned aerial vehicles.

Bloomberg reported this.

"The main goal is to do everything so that as many of these drones as possible are delivered to Ukraine," Spruds said.

According to the Minister of Defense, this weaponry will help the Ukrainian military in the war, in which drones have become an essential element of combat operations.

Spruds' statement is the first indication of the scope of the drone initiative since the plan was presented at a meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov in December, the publication said.

Spruds declined to provide further details on the drone project, saying, "We are now at a stage where we are approaching 20 partners".

Drones were at the top of the list of military equipment the Ukrainian military leadership sought. Ukraine is also building a fleet of naval drones that it deploys to target Russian vessels in the Black Sea.

For reference:

As Rubryka reported, the Ministers of Defense of Ukraine and Latvia, Rustem Umerov and Andris Spruds, discussed several joint projects, including the expansion of training of the Ukrainian military by Latvian instructors, the continuation of the rehabilitation program of Ukrainian defenders, and cooperation in the field of UAV production.

During the meeting, Andris Spruds initiated the creation of a drone coalition and confirmed that Latvia is ready to continue and deepen cooperation and look for new partners.

"The development of technologies, in particular those that ensure the lives of soldiers, is a key direction of our work," said the Minister of Defense of Latvia.

Therefore, according to him, the Drone Coalition and technologies for the development of drones are essential to advance in saving the lives of the military and approaching the victory of Ukraine as a whole.
