US allocates Poland a $2 billion loan for army modernization

The US State Department has announced granting a loan of $2 billion to Poland, which is intended for the modernization of the country's defense capabilities.

This is stated in the official message of the US State Department, Rubryka writes.

"Today, the United States is proud to announce the signing of a milestone $2 billion Foreign Military Financing (FMF) direct loan agreement to support Poland's defense modernization," the statement said.

At the same time, it is emphasized that Poland's security is "vital to the collective defense of NATO's Eastern Flank."

The State Department also added that Warsaw plays a "central role" in promoting international aid to Ukraine and strengthening regional security through significant investments in defense spending.

"Poland is a stalwart US ally, and its security is vital to the collective defense of NATO's eastern flank," the statement said.

It is noted that the US government allocates $60 million to cover the cost of the FMF loan, which will be used to pay for Poland's defense modernization program by purchasing weapons from the US.

As reported, in 2023, Poland topped the rating of defense spending within NATO. According to forecasts, by the end of the year, the expenses of the Polish side in this area will reach 3.9%.
