At least 4,000 people detained at anti-war rallies in Russia

As of the evening of March 6, at least 4,359 people were detained at anti-war rallies in Russia, more than at last year's January 23 rally in support of opposition leader Aleksei Navalny.

This was reported by an independent human rights media project dedicated to the political persecution of Russia's OVD-Info in Russia.

"As of 19:40 (Moscow time) on March 6, more than 4,359 people have been detained in 56 cities," the statement said.

ATS-Info notes that there may be more detainees in each police department than in published lists, as the project only publishes the names of people they know for sure whose names they can publish.

Most detainees are in Moscow (at least 1,629 detainees), St. Petersburg (1173), Novosibirsk (272), Ekaterinburg (215), Tyumen (124), and Perm (91).

Note

More than 3,400 people were detained at rallies in Russia in support of Navalny in January 2021. This was a record number of detainees in the last 10 years.

What happened earlier: On March 6, anti-war rallies are taking place in Russian cities, during which protesters are being detained en masse. In some cities, Russian police knocked people to the ground and kicked them.
