Poland: Ukraine may receive EU candidate status in the coming days

Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz said that Ukraine could receive the status of a candidate for EU membership "tomorrow-the day after tomorrow," if there is a political decision.

He said this in an interview with RMF FM.

"Ukraine can become a candidate for the EU tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, next week. This is a matter of political decision by the EU. This initiative is supported by 10 countries," said Przydacz.

He said he had no information that Berlin and Paris would agree to the status at this time, but said: "we will convince them."

To recap, amid Russia's war against Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed an application for Ukraine's accession to the EU on February 28.

On March 1, the European Union officially launched the procedure for considering Ukraine's application for membership.

On March 2, the European Parliament overwhelmingly approved a resolution urging EU member states to work to grant Ukraine candidate status.
