In 2021, more than 7,000 kilometers of roads were built and repaired in Ukraine. Another 6,000 were built in 2020.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this at the "Roads and Bridges" forum reporting on the results of the Big Construction program, Rubryka reports.

"A few years ago, a forum on roads and bridges was something like a forum on aliens or teleportation in time. In short, a discussion of what everyone heard but no one saw… More than 6.5 thousand kilometers of roads have been renovated or built, in 2020. More than 7,000 kilometers of roads this year. And almost 14,000 kilometers of work in two years," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The President also said that more than 40% of the major road network connecting cities and regions of Ukraine was renovated and built. More than 500 overpasses and bridges have also been renovated and built.

Separately, Zelenskyy stressed the results of opinion polls, saying that every third citizen considers the construction of roads one of the most important achievements of the country in 2021. And more than 60% of respondents, according to the president, say that the infrastructure has improved.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal also spoke at the forum, saying that infrastructure development had significantly affected the economic situation, helping Ukraine minimize the fall in GDP amid the global crisis.

"We will successfully continue to implement the Big Construction project. 350 bridges have been restored and we will continue. We have a large number of bridges that need renovation. In total, more than $10 billion was spent on the development of road and bridge infrastructure this year and last year, which is a record for Ukraine…

We restrained the fall in GDP and received only a little more than -4%, this was due to infrastructure investment. 140 billion hryvnias have already been invested in the roads. But we also use funds from international partners. The next stage is business funds. We are talking about the first concession bank of Ukraine, which should start next year," said Denys Shmyhal.

In addition, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the modernization of international checkpoints.
