Most Ukrainians support idea of referendum to ban sale of land

More than 70% of Ukrainians are in favor of holding a referendum to ban the sale of agricultural land, according to a nationwide survey conducted by Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).

According to the results of the study published on the KIIS website, 71.7% of Ukrainians support a referendum to ban the sale of agricultural land, whereas 21% are against it, and 7.2% were undecided or refused to answer.

At the same time, if the referendum was held and if the question "Do you support the ban on the sale of agricultural land?" was asked, 65.2% of respondents would vote "yes" and 21.8% would vote "no." Some 6.5% said they would not take part in the voting, and 6.4% were undecided or refused to answer. Thus, among the respondents who would take part in the voting, 74.9% would support the ban, the KIIS said.

At the same time, the absolute majority of Ukrainians – 84.1% – do not support the sale of agricultural land to foreigners, 12.1% support the idea, and 3.8% were undecided or refused to answer.

Some 2,031 respondents from 107 settlements in all regions of Ukraine (except the Autonomous Republic of Crimea) took part in the survey. In Luhansk and Donetsk regions, the survey was conducted only in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. The poll's margin of error does not exceed 3.3% for figures close to 50%, 2.9% for figures close to 25%, 2.2% for figures close to 12%, and 1.5% for figures close to 5%.
