Why is the creation of a free economic zone in Donbas a strategic decision?
Two weeks before the local elections in Ukraine on October 25, 2020, Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced the initiative to poll the society, later called "5 questions from the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi." Such an initiative provoked a barrage of criticism in the media and a discussion of pros and cons.
However, this column isn't so much about this survey's expediency or legality as about the discussion of its content. More precisely, about the details of the second question, announced by the sixth President of Ukraine in his address of 15.10.2020, which reads: "Do you support the creation of a free economic zone in Donbas?"
This question's results were the most unpredictable. 46.48% of respondents were against such an initiative, and 46.70% were in favor. It's a very interesting result, which raises many questions because what so bad can one find in the Free Economic Zone (FEZ)?
