Harris refuses bilateral talks with Putin without Ukraine's involvement in war discussions
US Vice President Kamala Harris asserted that she would not agree to a bilateral meeting with the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to address the war he instigated against Ukraine.
The US presidential candidate announced that in an interview with CBS News.
"On a bilateral basis without Ukraine – no. Ukraine should have the right to vote on the future of Ukraine," Harris stressed.
The US vice president also emphasized that the United States now supports Ukraine's ability to defend itself against Russian aggression.
"If Donald Trump were president, Putin would be sitting in Kyiv right now. He's saying, 'Oh, he can end this in one day.' You know what that means? It means capitulation," Harris emphasized.
The US presidential candidate was also asked about Ukraine's possible membership in NATO. The US vice president replied, "These are issues we will deal with if and when it comes to that."
It is worth mentioning that during his visit to the USA in late September 2024, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed the details of the Victory Plan to Vice President Kamala Harris. The Democratic Party's US presidential candidate expressed her support for Ukraine's view on ending the war.
It's worth mentioning that Donald Trump, who is competing with Harris in the presidential election, expressed support for a "fair" peace for Ukraine after meeting with Zelensky. However, he did not specify what type of agreement he would consider fair to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
For reference:
The upcoming US presidential election is set for November 5. Kamala Harris, the current vice president, has formally joined the presidential race following Joe Biden's decision to withdraw due to pressure from his allies.
On September 11, the first debate between presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump took place in the United States of America. During the debate, the Republican leader voiced several populist slogans while the Democratic candidate tried to respond more constructively.
In particular, Trump and Harris touched on Russia's war against Ukraine. Their statements clearly show vastly different positions on this issue. Harris reaffirmed her support for Ukraine, while Trump avoided directly addressing the question.
As a result, registered voters who watched the debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump the day before thought that Harris performed better. The ratio of votes was recorded as 63% to 37%.
