Ukraine-NATO Council discusses plans for air defense shield at meeting – Ukrainian defense minister

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine took part in the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council, convened on the instructions of the President of Ukraine in connection with the massive missile attacks by Russia.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported this.

"Two days ago, the terrorist state launched more than 200 missiles and drones, killing innocent people and destroying critical infrastructure," Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, informed the partners during a video conference.

The meeting participants discussed the current situation at the front and future plans for supplying air defense systems and missiles.

The defense minister also mentioned that Ukraine is in ongoing discussions, particularly with other countries, about establishing an air defense system, known as the "security belt," over the country's western regions.

He expressed gratitude to the allies for their steadfast support and promised assistance.

"More and more allies support the lifting of restrictions on the use of long-range weapons for Ukraine's self-defense within the framework of international law," Rustem Umerov concluded.

The Ukraine-NATO Council convened at the request of Ukraine, during which the allies strongly denounced Russia's indiscriminate strikes on civilians and infrastructure. They also confirmed their commitment to increasing military aid to Ukraine.

Following another round of intense shelling by Russia, the participants reaffirmed the strong backing and unity of the Alliance allies towards Ukraine. The Special Ukraine-NATO Council also affirmed its commitment to continue and bolster aid in the struggle against Russian aggression.
