Bundestag again rejects call to send Taurus missiles to Ukraine

The German Bundestag rejected the call of the democratic opposition faction to transfer long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, ARD reports.

The vote was preceded by an hour-and-a-half debate on a motion by the conservative opposition, calling to send the long-awaited missiles.

The MPs mostly supported the idea of giving Ukraine long-range missiles.

However, during the voting, they were forced to adhere to the "coalition" discipline and vote against it together with the Social Democratic Party.

The day before, Chancellor Olaf Scholz rejected the possibility of transferring these weapons to Ukraine.

The parties of the democratic center, both the coalition and the opposition, stated that internal political quarrels play into the hands of Russian propaganda and Putin, who is trying to sow discord in Western democracies and increase divisions by using the topic of aid to Ukraine.

The previous vote on a similar motion calling for the Taurus to be delivered occurred on February 22, when 182 MPs voted in favor of the proposal, and 480 voted against.

This is the third attempt to get parliamentary support for the transfer of these weapons systems.
