Ukraine has launched anonymous psychological support chat for men

Ukraine has launched an online chat of psychological support for men. By contacting the line in Telegram, Viber, or the Support Line website, men can receive support from professional psychologists by texting.

What is the problem?

During a full-scale war, stressful situations increase, so solutions to the problem and overcoming psychological stress are vital.

"Men often live with the idea that they have to solve their problems on their own. They do not seek professional help. According to the results of our survey among men, which we conducted in the summer of 2022, 90% of respondents did not have experience in applying for professional psychological support in any form.

At the same time, almost every third Ukrainian is in a state of significant distress, in which a person is not able to adapt to stressful situations and the consequences caused by them," said UNFPA program manager Alyona Zubchenko.

What is the solution?

On the International Day of Men, UNFPA, supported by the UK Government, launches a free anonymous and round-the-clock online chat of psychological support for men.

In October 2022, UNFPA launched a free anonymous psychological support line for men with number 2345.

Psychologists have received more than 9,200 calls for more than a year. In order for men to have more opportunities to seek support, the project team created an online chat in addition to the hotline.

How does it work?

The conversation will occur online, with operators being qualified psychologists with many years of experience. Psychological support is designed to help men stabilize their emotional state, find mental resources to get out of difficult situations and understand the problematic aspects of behavior.

Each man can seek advice in the chat once a day with a consultation duration of up to 90 minutes.

Men can write on any issues that cause stress, such as problems at work or relationships, war experiences, difficulties regulating anger, etc.
