Azerbaijan to provide Ukraine with equipment to restore electricity networks
Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko and Ambassador of Azerbaijan Seymour Mardaliyev met to discuss assistance to Ukraine's energy sector and deepen cooperation in the oil and gas industry, Rubryka reports.
"We highly value our cooperation with Azerbaijan in the energy sector, and we really hope that this cooperation will strengthen," the Ukrainian energy minister said.
Halushchenko thanked Azerbaijan for supporting the Ukrainian energy sector last winter, which helped maintain the energy system amid Russia's massive missile and drone attacks.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion in February last year, Ukraine has received ten shipments of humanitarian aid for its energy sector from Azerbaijan, including 50 standby power stations and 45 power transformers. By the end of 2023, the Turkic country will deliver the next large batch of new equipment to Ukraine to restore electrical distribution networks.
The minister and ambassador paid special attention to cooperation in the oil and gas industry, particularly to the storage and transit of resources. Halushchenko noted that intensifying cooperation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan in this area would not only allow the countries to get rid of dependence on Russian energy carriers but would also strengthen the energy security of Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.
