Ukrainian forces install new border sign on Snake Island previously destroyed by Russian army
Ukrainian border guards, supported by the intelligence units, have installed a border sign on the Zmiinyi (Snake) Island.
The previous one, which stood here before the full-scale war, was brutally destroyed by Russian invaders.
Today, servicemen of the Izmail border detachment, with the full support of servicemen of the Ukraine's defense ministry, restored historical justice: a border sign was installed on the Zmiinyi (Snake) Island, says head of the State Border Service Serhii Deineko.
The next border sign will be installed in Crimea after its liberation by Ukrainian forces, Deineko adds.
Deineko recorded a video address on Zmiinyi (Snake) Island, jointly with Dmytro Usov, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence.
At the beginning of the full-scale war, the Russian military captured Ukrainian border guards on Zmiinyi Island, destroying the units and quickly sieging the area.
The same year, on June 30, the Russian invaders were forced to leave Zmiinyi Island after Ukrainian defenders launched a series of attacks on the island, including with a Ukrainian Bohdana howitzer.
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the evacuation, calling it a "gesture of goodwill."
On July 7, the South Command reported that Ukrainian special forces had landed on the island and completed the task of clearing it. Troops reinstalled and fixed the flag of Ukraine, which had been delivered to the island earlier, "as a symbol of victory and rebirth from these ruins."
The flag says, "Remember, 'Russian warship', Zmiinyi Island is Ukraine!"
