Zelensky visits Japan for G7 summit
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Japan to attend the G7 summit.
This is reported on the Telegram of the head of state, Kyodo.
"G7. Important meetings with partners and friends of Ukraine. Security and strengthening of cooperation for our victory. Today, peace will become closer," the President wrote.
It should be noted that this will be Zelensky's first trip to Japan, the host country of the G7 summit. And also to Asia since Russia's war against Ukraine began in February last year.
Kyodo believes that his presence is aimed at gaining more support for Ukraine from the group of advanced economies, although the issue of Ukraine is one of the key items on the agenda of this year's summit.
Initially, it was planned, the Japanese Foreign Ministry told the publication, that the President of Ukraine would attend the summit online, but he "expressed a strong desire to join the meeting in person."
"After a thorough analysis of the agenda and schedule of the summit, we have decided that we will hold a session on Ukraine among the G7 leaders with the personal participation of President Zelensky on the last day of the summit," the Japanese diplomatic agency said.
The Japanese government reported that the Ukrainian president also plans to hold bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
It should be noted that Zelensky recently visited Italy, Germany, France, and Great Britain for talks with their leaders, intensifying calls for further support.
As a result of the territorial aggression from Russia, Ukraine requires additional armaments and military equipment to carry out a successful counteroffensive and reclaim its territories.
