The Swiss government intends to provide long-term support worth $1.7 billion to Ukraine by 2028.

The support will be provided as part of the international cooperation strategy for 2025 to 2028, Swiss foreign minister Ignazio Cassis says.

Together with the $338 million earmarked for 2023 and 2024, Switzerland would support Ukraine with at least $2 billion over the next six years.

The foreign minister also stressed the importance of the Lugano Declaration. It is the result of the first conference about Ukraine's reconstruction, held in the Swiss city of Lugano in July 2022.

On March 29, Switzerland joined the sanctions of the European Union aimed at curbing Russian military aggression.

On April 13, the EU Council supported the allocation of 1 billion within the European Peace Fund (EPF) to support Ukrainian forces. This will allow EU member states to be recompensed for ammunition provided to Ukraine from their stocks.
