US donates $1.25 billion for pensions and social payments to Ukrainians

Ukraine's state budget received a grant from the United States worth $1.25 billion.

Ukraine's Ministry of Finance press service reports that the funds were provided through the World Bank's Trust Fund as part of the fourth additional financing for the project "Supporting public expenditures to ensure sustainable public administration in Ukraine."

The grant will be aimed at:

  • provision of partial reimbursement of budget expenditures, in particular on pensions,
  • social assistance (assistance for internally displaced persons),
  • ensuring the remuneration of employees of state bodies, employees of the State Emergency Service, and employees of higher education institutions.

Since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine has already received $15.5 billion in grants from the United States.

The project is being implemented jointly with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA) for $14.9 billion and €1.4 billion. The sources are IBRD loans, IDA loans, and grants from the Trust Fund of many donors.
