Icelandic parliament recognizes Holodomor, genocide of the Ukrainian people

The Icelandic parliament joined in the chorus and recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 on the territory of the Ukrainian SSR as a genocide of the Ukrainians.

This decision was taken unanimously,  Ukraine's President Zelensky says on Twitter

"I am grateful to Iceland for recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people, for honoring the memory of millions of Ukrainians killed by the moscow regime. This is a clear signal: such crimes do not go unpunished. And they do not have a statute of limitations," Zelensky emphasized.

As the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba emphasized on Twitter after the Icelandic parliament unanimously recognized the Holodomor as genocide, the Ukrainian people will always appreciate Iceland's sincere solidarity and respect for the millions of victims of the tragedy.

  • "I am deeply grateful to Iceland for recognising the 1932-1933 Holodomor as genocide in a unanimous vote of Althingi. Iceland's genuine solidarity and respect towards the millions of Holodomor victims will always be cherished by the Ukrainian people..

On November 28, 2006, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law "On the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine", which recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
