Hetman Sahaidachnyi frigate flooded so that enemy couldn't use it

The Hetman Sahaidachnyi Navy frigate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was flooded so that the enemy could not use it, including for sabotage.

This was announced by the Minister of Defense Oleksii Reznikov on Facebook and the head of the public relations service of the Armed Forces Navy Command Oleh Chalyk in a comment to the UP.

The commander of the Navy's flagship carried out an order to sink the ship so that the Hetman Sahaidachnyi frigate, which was under repair, wouldn't reach the enemy. It is difficult to imagine a more difficult solution for a brave warrior and the whole team. But we will build a new fleet. Modern, powerful. The main thing now is to resist," Reznikov said.

"The Ukrainian Navy frigate Hetman Sahaidachnyi was in the process of deep modernization. It was impossible to assemble it and restore its combat capability in a short time. Accordingly, due to the threat of capture by the enemy, a decision was made to flood it.

The ship's crew continues its service and is currently performing tasks to protect Ukraine from the Russian Federation," Chalyk said.

In response to a question from the UP, the press service of the Navy also explained the above decision that the enemy could use the frigate for sabotage, such as closing the harbor (as was the case during the occupation of Crimea)
