BGV Group of well-known entrepreneur Butkevych invests in sports development in Zhytomyr region
Hennadii Butkevych's BGV Group Corporation has become a 100% owner of the Polissia football club.
Soon the Zhytomyr municipal football club "Polissia" will be fully funded by the sponsor. On August 27, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed at the Central Stadium with BGV Group Management, a sponsor, which is to become the new owner of the FC. Zhytomyr Mayor Serhii Sukhomlyn announced this on Facebook.
"We've fulfilled the task of restoring football in Zhytomyr! But in this sport, you can't do without proper funding. It's great that a responsible, ambitious investor has appeared on our way, BGV Group Management. FC Polissia/Zhytomyr will soon be fully funded by a sponsor. BGV Group has been helping the club for more than a year. They bought a bus and a car. Now they'll become the owner and further develop the team," the message reads.
The mayor noted that today a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the city council, regional council, administration, and the sponsor. He also noted that the funds previously allocated by the city to finance Polissia would be used to develop children's sports.
"Together we'll create such a system so that we can educate football players for our Polissia from an early age. Because, for example, after the Dmytro Rudy tournament, Shakhtar took one of our U-12 players. It's nice, but it shouldn't be like that. Players must stay in their local professional teams! This is a joint program for all of us, we'll develop children's and youth sports schools. In particular, the 20% that the city used to give to finance FC Polissia will be used for the development of children's sports in Zhytomyr," Serhii Sukhomlyn said.
"Our company has another ambitious project related to sports development. Now we need to make FC Polissia play in the highest football division of the country!" Serhii Voitsekhovskyi, a member of the Board of Directors of BGV Group, commented on his Facebook page.
BGV Group Management belongs to Hennadii Butkevych, who is among the top 20 richest Ukrainians according to Forbes as a co-owner of ATB Corporation, the largest supermarket chain in Ukraine.
As you know, Football Club "Polissia" is a state enterprise of the Zhytomyr City Council.
